Jayhawks: Stay safe this Stop Day
Fellow Jayhawks,
One of the traditions at the University of Kansas is “Stop Day” – a day when we pause to prepare for the finals to come.
This Stop Day, let’s stop the consumption of dangerous amounts of alcohol. We have seen all too well the toll that excessive alcohol consumption imposes on KU students, as well as their friends and families.
Excessive alcohol consumption has killed college students, and it can kill you. We do not want you to be among the victims.
There are excellent resources available at KU to help you, or friends of yours, who experience problems with alcohol or other drugs. Please call the Wellness Resource Center at 785-864-9570 to take advantage of the assistance that is available.
Of course, if you suspect a friend is suffering from alcohol poisoning, please call 911 immediately.
We want all Jayhawks to act responsibly and within the law. Respect those who don’t want to drink alcohol and don’t make drinking the primary focus of any activity. If you do choose to drink alcohol, limit your consumption to no more than a drink an hour and don’t drink on an empty stomach.
And please, do not drink and drive, as that puts many more lives than your own in danger.
We are proud of the way Jayhawks celebrated the 2008 National Championship in a largely safe and responsible manner. Let’s celebrate graduation and the end of the semester in the same way.
Thank you in advance and good luck on finals!
Sincerely,
Bob Hemenway
