Our Shared Success
Dear Colleagues,
KU has experienced a magical football season with our beloved Jayhawks going undefeated for most of the season, accomplishing things never before achieved in KU history.
Coach Mark Mangino, his staff, and the team have given us memories that will be treasured for a long time. They have taught us the value of hard work and dedication.
I have been struck by the spirit of good feeling that seems to accompany such athletic success. We have an excellent Athletic Director, Lew Perkins, who has helped teach us how to set high goals, and it all has the effect of encouraging us to focus on the meaning of winning, no matter what competition we enter.
KU’s Debate Team is ranked number one in the country, our Pharmacy School ranks third in NIH research funding, and our Public Administration program is nationally recognized for its urban policy and city management expertise. Our art history department houses world renowned scholars, whose text books shape the discipline.
I could go on and on, citing other examples of KU excellence, but I think you get the point.
We just finished a Thanksgiving holiday, one that has made us conscious of all that we have and feel thankful for. May the rest of the holiday season reinforce your sense of accomplishment as the fall semester ends, finals are taken, and we look forward to both a nationally prominent bowl game, and the continued success of the basketball teams.
It is all part of the Jayhawk spirit that leads us forward into the new year, proud and secure in the shared success of our award-winning university.
Sincerely,
Bob Hemenway
Chancellor
