Growing up, we were always slightly embarrassed about our father’s choice of headgear even as we felt proud watching him do everything he could to support this great university. Now that we’re older, we suspect the hats may have been an effort to shield us from being confronted with the male pattern baldness that is our collective future — another example of sacrifice from a man who has always put the interests of others before his own.

All kidding aside, we’re not embarrassed anymore. The pride we’ve always felt has swelled as we look back at everything our father has done for us and for the University of Kansas. We’ve never been embarrassed by the spirit, dedication, and honor with which Bob Hemenway has undertaken each and every task for a university he truly loves.
